Liahona Academy

So I just learned about this interesting private school/home school program. I know what you're thinking, 'What do you mean private school/home school?!?!?'

I'll get to that.

Enter the Liahona Academy: A private school located in Pleasant Grove, UT. I'll let their wiki page give the summary:

Liahona Preparatory Academy is a regionally accredited private school in Utah County, Utah, United States, that teaches pre-kindergarten to grade 12. The school was founded by Brent and Kolleen DeGraff. The school blends core academics with the principles of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). Liahona has been in operation since 1998. Liahona teaches four basic classes: history, science, English, and math. They also teach electives such as dance, Spanish, drama, choir, and career exploration. Liahona currently has almost 200 on-campus students.

So far so interesting, at least for an LDS parent. The part that really caught my interest though is that they allow students to take their classes from home, no matter where they live (by which I mean, even outside of Utah, or the USA!). This allows you as a parent to get the benefits of homeschooling bundled together with the benefits of having a staff of brilliant, hard working teachers who probably know a bit more about their respective subjects than the average parent.

How is this accomplished? Well, in the classrooms of their campus in Pleasant Grove there are HD cameras running during the day's classes, which are then live streamed and stored on their online servers. So, your kids can watch the classes, take the tests and do the homework all from home, allowing them to do their schooling according to their preferred schedules. Wow! What a dream program...

Oh, and did I mention that these long distance students are always invited to participate in the school's social events (like Prom and such) if they should so choose?

Not to mention, the school is known for doing lots of service projects, as well as taking trips around the world, especially Mexico and the sites along the east coast of the US that were key in the founding of our nation.

They have a great basketball program, if that's your thing.

Soon, they'll also have a sustainable aquaponics greenhouse and organic/Permaculture gardens set up soon, so they're super green.

Plus, it's very economical, according to the Private school review odds are you'll only be paying around $2K a year.

Overall, this seems like a very interesting school to look at if you're an LDS parent looking for a high quality and moral education for your kids!
